Fixation systems for patients

Simple and effective solutions for fixation in the medical field

Whether it's wound care or a medical procedure, it's not always enough just to apply a plaster. But what if it is? What kind of plaster? It should hold, the wound should remain sterile. Not tear off with every movement. Solutions are sought in intensive care, inpatient care or even just for everyday use.

Our Transafix fixation systems not only fulfil medical requirements, but have also developed solutions that make treatment much easier for both patients and nursing staff. These patents have not just been around since today, but are part of our 85-year tradition and company history.

The highest standards of hygiene and sterility are required in intensive care medicine in particular. Fixations for catheters, nasogastric tubes, gastric tubes, tubes and the like are required. At the same time, the demands on nursing staff are also increasing. Patients have to be moved or washed and these necessary movements must not provoke any new care for the patient. In addition, there are patients with different skin sensitivities that need to be taken into account.

We would like to briefly introduce you to a few of these extremely efficient solutions for fixations:

Fixing straps and accessories

Nasal and gastric tubes, as well as feeding tubes and drains, are often positioned in such a way that they interfere with patient comfort. With our Transafix Fixing Strap, we have developed a solution with which the lines can be fixed to the body without affecting the patient. The lead or probe can either move freely in the Velcro tab or be fixed in place by removing the Protective Cover to expose an adhesive layer. The Velcro strap can be opened and closed as often as required, which means that it is not necessary to replace the Fixing Strap when changing probes or similar.

Nasal probe fixations

The insertion of nasal and gastric tubes is a common application in hospitals. The tube is inserted into the stomach through the patient's nose. The tube must therefore be securely fixed to the bridge of the patient's nose. Our Transafix nasal holder set offers the perfect solution for this. The combination of the Nasal Holder, available in skin-coloured fleece or hydrocolloid, and the Nasal Strip makes the system ready for use. Both components are connected by a secure Velcro fastener. This means that only the Nasal Strip needs to be replaced when the nasal or gastric tube is changed; the Nasal Holder can remain on the nose for 3-5 days. This reduces skin irritation and inflammation and prevents the need for intensive aftercare. Both fleece and hydrocolloid are very kind to the skin. We recommend using the hydrocolloid holder for very sensitive skin.

Transafix tube fixation

Easy fixation of the tube with our Transafix tube fixation Tube fixation Secure and comfortable fixation is particularly important when using tubes. With our Transafix tube holder, we have also developed a perfect solution for this. The set consists of two parts, the 2 cheek plates, available in fleece or hydrocolloid, and a Fixing Strap with a length of 40 cm. The holder can be individually adjusted and is therefore suitable for all sizes. The cheek holders and Fixing Strap are connected by a secure Velcro fastener. Thanks to the skin-friendly materials, long-term use of up to 12 days is possible. Both materials, fleece and hydrocolloid, are very kind to the skin. We recommend the use of Hydrocolloid cheek plates for patients with very sensitive or damaged skin. This enables simple and secure fixation using the Velcro fastener on the cheek plates and Fixing Strap without having to lift the patient's head.

Fixation of PEG probes

With PEG probes (PEG = percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy), there is a risk of them being removed unintentionally due to mobility or excessive tensile stress, which can cause inflammation. For this reason, they are often fixed with a simple suture and additionally with a tape plaster. With our PEG Set No. 10, we have developed a complete solution that avoids this and is extremely comfortable for the patient. The set consists of a drainage dressing, a fixation plaster, 4 gauze dressings and a Transafix Fixing Strap. The additional fixation of the PEG tube with our Transafix No. 2 prevents it from slipping into the genital area and thus reduces the risk of inflammation. The Velcro tab can be opened and closed several times a day so that the tube can be released from the fixation if necessary and then securely fixed again. Thanks to the skin-friendly Transafix Fixing Strap No. 2 and the Fixing Plaster, the PEG set can be worn for up to 7 days without skin irritation.

All Transafix Fixing Straps and Plasters, whether for catheter, tube or cannula fixation (not to mention all other applications), are breathable and gentle on the skin and can be applied to sensitive skin for longer periods. They are adaptable, water-repellent and have a strong hold and can be removed without leaving any residue
