The idea of the Patient Transfer Scale (PTW) was born out of frustration: an NHS Lanarkshire nurse working in emergency care was determined to find an easier way to weigh immobile patients.

The Patient Transfer Scale means you no longer have to estimate a patient's weight. During development, the PTW was tested in over 30 hospitals. The result and final design of the patient transfer scale is therefore based on feedback from healthcare professionals.
Healthcare professionals have a duty to ensure a safe environment for patients while preserving their dignity. The PTW provides reassurance to the doctor and carer and ensures a quick and accurate weight. A patient's weight can be critical to providing the right care and treatment at the right time.
With the patient transfer scale, the weight is determined during the Transfer, a process that is already in place. As usual, the patient can be transferred from the stretcher to the bed using a roll board. In the meantime, the PTW is pushed under the patient and the rollboard and the weight can be easily read off. For precise operation, we recommend that you make an appointment with one of our experts and watch the application video.
The patient transfer scale is lightweight and portable and can be moved to exactly where your patient is.

How often is it used?
The scales are used several times a week. It is used to determine the weight for an ERCP and also helps to determine the exact dosage of medication.
Why does it help and what for?
The scales have become an important part of our work. Prof Dr Dignass had long been looking for a solution to determine the weight of lying patients reliably, quickly and in a way that is easy on staff. This is important for the radiation dosage during an examination in order to minimise scattered radiation. Weight also plays an enormous role when it comes to medication. As soon as a patient is immobile, weighing the patient poses a greater challenge. Either it was estimated or there was a bed scale, for example. With the patient transfer scale, we can accurately determine the weight when positioning or bedding the patient and thus precisely determine the dosage of medication or document overweight or underweight.
Description / Handling?
Handling is extremely easy. There are 2 buttons (on/off and hold for weighing). The patient is pulled onto the scale with a roll board or a table mat/sheet. As soon as the patient is on the scale, press Hold and the weight is determined and stored within a very short time. As it is so easy to use, it does not require a long and complicated description.
Recommendation?
We can definitely recommend the scales.
