The respiratory reflexes of coma patients, unconscious, sedated or otherwise immobilised persons are often impaired. They therefore require artificial respiration. Hollow tubes, known as endotracheal tubes, are used to ensure respiratory function in hospital wards, nursing homes and retirement homes. The tube is inserted into the trachea via the mouth or nose into the throat and supplies the lungs with the necessary oxygen.

Sensitive areas such as the vocal folds and larynx are affected when positioning the tube. Therefore, reliable fixation is required to ensure that the tube remains in position and does not cause pain or injury to the patient. Transatlantic has developed the Transafix tube fixation system, a perfect solution for providing ventilator patients with the help they need.

Comfortable and skin-friendly tube fixation

The Transafix tube fixation consists of three parts. These are two cheek plates made of soft fleece and a 40 cm long Fixing Strap. Both materials are extremely skin-friendly, so that fixations of up to 12 days are possible. For patients with skin damage, the fleece can be replaced by hydrocolloid cheek plates. These are used in particular for burnt or hypersensitive skin.

The two cheek plates are now placed at a distance of approx. 2-3 cm next to the corners of the mouth (see explanatory video). The Fixing Strap is looped twice around the Tube and attached to the cheek plates on both sides using the Velcro fastening system. With our Transfix tube fixation, the patient's head does not need to be lifted. The Fixations are available in a convenient pack of 30 sets. Cheek plates, Fixing Strap and Hydrocolloid components are also available separately.
